As per a new sub-regulation inserted to the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Regulations, 2016 which states, “Provided that the date of birth of resident can be updated only once. In case the date of birth is to be updated more than once, it can only be done through an exception handling process which may require the resident to visit the Regional Office (RO) of the UIDAI.
”Rules For Correcting Date Of Birth In Aadhaar Made Stringent
This implies in case the resident needs to get the date of birth on his or her aadhaar card corrected more than once, the updation can now be made only by visiting the Regional Office of the UIDAI. So, if at the time of enrolling for aadhaar the date of birth is wrongly mentioned, you can get it corrected by again visiting the nearest enrolment centre. But for any change in date of birth thereafter, you will have to get the updation done via an ‘exception handling process’.
The move is aimed at checking individuals from making frequent changes to their Aadhaar details such as date of birth, address, name etc.
UIDAI further said that in genuine cases the request for updation or correction of date of birth in the aadhaar can be taken up provided the individual concerned has the requisite documents to back his or her case. Earlier there was no stipulation in respect of the number of times date of birth record can be changed in the aadhar card and holders of aadhaar can get it rectified by just visiting the nearest UIDAI enrolment or updating centre.
